It is insightful when thinking about risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>.S T E V E &#8216; S&#8230;.3\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 M I N U T E&#8230;.C O A C H I N G\u00a0<br \/>\nSteve Straus &#8211; Coach\u00a0 Subscribers: 1500+\u00a0 Readers: 3000+\u00a0 16SEP09\u00a0<br \/>\n__________________________________________________________\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s Topic &#8211; PRINCIPLE: Risk\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Principles are basic truths that, when applied,\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New research on the topic of risk has surfaced some\u00a0<br \/>\nintriguing insights, namely that we have risk and control\u00a0<br \/>\nintertwined.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you feel in control of a situation, you will take on a\u00a0<br \/>\ngreater amount of risk than if you feel you are not in\u00a0<br \/>\ncontrol.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For instance, consider a skydiver. He or she clearly\u00a0<br \/>\nassumes a level of risk by jumping out of an airplane.\u00a0<br \/>\nThat risk to life-and-limb is much greater than they\u00a0<br \/>\nhave as a passenger in a modern commercial airliner\u00a0<br \/>\nin regular service, but they may be terrified to fly!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The difference? In the skydiving activity they are (or\u00a0<br \/>\nat least believe they are) in full control of their destiny.\u00a0<br \/>\nAs a passenger in the airliner they have given up all\u00a0<br \/>\ncontrol to a stranger in the cockpit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another example &#8212; an entrepreneur may have a higher\u00a0<br \/>\nrisk of financial security than a corporate employee,\u00a0<br \/>\nbut having greater personal control of their destiny\u00a0<br \/>\nmay trump the &#8220;safety&#8221; of the corporate job.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When you notice potential risk also notice possible\u00a0<br \/>\ncontrol. Having a greater sense of control may let\u00a0<br \/>\nyou take on much greater risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Coaching Point: Do you control your destiny?
